The Story Behind Sri Lankan Coffee

While Sri Lanka is famous for its world-renowned Ceylon Tea, few know that the island once had a thriving coffee industry. Long before tea arrived, Sri Lankan coffee was celebrated for its exceptional quality. By the mid-19th century, Sri Lanka—then known as Ceylon—was among the top three coffee producers globally, alongside Brazil and Indonesia.

However, disaster struck in the early 1900s when a fungal disease called coffee leaf rust devastated the island’s coffee plantations. As a result, coffee production nearly disappeared, making way for tea.

Reviving a Lost Legacy

At Damn Fine Coffee, we set out with a bold vision—to bring back Sri Lanka’s lost coffee heritage. We are a homegrown Sri Lankan company passionate about producing world-class coffee. After years of research and experimentation, we successfully revived Sri Lanka’s legendary coffee beans. Today, we cultivate them in the same lush highlands where they once thrived over two centuries ago.
