Damn fine Coffee
Brew Turkish Coffee Like a True Local
This old fashioned yet fancy looking brewing pot has been specifically designed to brew Turkish coffee. The brewing method is quite simple even though the carving of the pot says otherwise.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- The Ibrik
- Coffee (ground/beans)
- Grinder (if using beans)
- Heat source
- Small spoon
- Spices and sugar (Optional)
BREW TIME
- 5 Mins
LET’S GET STARTED
STEP
01
Measure and grind
Measure 10g of coffee and grind the beans fresh to an extra fine, powdery consistency.
STEP
02
Add water
Measure the 120ml of water and add 2 teaspoons of sugar. (Sugar is optional)
STEP
03
Add Coffee
Add the measured and finely ground coffee to the pot and let it float. Prevent from stirring.
STEP
04
Get Brewing
Place the Ibrik on a heat source and turn the heat to medium-high. Let the water heat up gradually. When the coffee starts dissolving in the water and the water is warm enough to dissolve your sugar, take the spoon and stir it several times vigorously till it creates a foam. At the same time turn the heat to low.
STEP
05
Thicker the better
When you see the foam (a ring of tiny bubbles) arising on the surface, turn the heat back up and from this point. Pay close attention on your brew to prevent it from boiling. The purpose here is to let the coffee create a thick froth. Increase and decrease heat to make a thicker froth on the surface. Do not let the coffee boil. If it reaches the boiling point, the foam will evaporate and the coffee will have a weak body.
STEP
06
Enjoy
After the foam sets on the surface remove the brewer from the heat source and serve into demitasse, or any preferred cup, and enjoy.
